Our focus

A general contractor built around property restoration

JR General Contracting Group operates from 307 W 93rd St in New York, NY, and provides water damage restoration and general contracting repair services to property owners, residents, landlords and building managers in Manhattan. Our work concentrates on properties affected by water: burst and leaking pipes, appliance failures, overflowing fixtures, roof and window leaks, and water travelling down from upper floors in multi-unit buildings.

We describe ourselves as a property restoration contractor because the two halves of the job are connected. Removing water and drying a structure requires one set of skills and equipment; rebuilding ceilings, walls and finishes requires another. Handling both means the transition between the cleanup phase and the construction phase does not fall between two companies.

Our service area covers the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley, Central Park West, Upper Manhattan and the surrounding Manhattan neighborhoods, along with wider New York City work where scheduling allows.

How we work

From water damage assessment through restoration

Every project moves through the same four stages. The sequence matters: repairs carried out before a structure is properly dry tend to fail, so each stage is completed before the next begins.

Stage 1

Assessment

We inspect the affected space, trace where the water entered and how far it has travelled, and take moisture readings in floors, walls and ceilings. This determines which materials can be dried in place and which need to be removed, and it defines the scope of work that follows.

Stage 2

Cleanup

Standing water is extracted and saturated materials that cannot be salvaged are removed. The area is cleaned, debris is cleared, and access routes such as hallways and stairwells are protected during the work — a practical necessity in Manhattan apartment buildings.

Stage 3

Drying

Air movers and dehumidifiers are positioned according to the layout of the space, and moisture levels are monitored over the following days. Equipment placement is adjusted as conditions change, and drying continues until readings confirm the structure is dry.

Stage 4

Repair & Restoration

Drywall, ceilings and walls are rebuilt, trim and baseboards are replaced, surfaces are taped, finished and painted, and flooring or fixtures are reinstalled where needed, so the space returns to a finished, usable condition.

Working in Manhattan

Buildings we work in

Manhattan properties are varied, and the practical constraints differ from building to building. Pre-war walk-ups, brownstones, co-ops, condominiums and modern commercial build-outs each present different access routes, floor assemblies and scheduling requirements. Equipment has to be moved through shared spaces, work often needs to be coordinated with building staff, and neighboring units may be affected by the same water event.

We plan the work around those realities: how equipment can reach the affected area, when access is available, and how to keep disruption to residents or business operations as limited as the project allows.

Detail on each individual service is available on the services page, and our full contact information is on the contact page.
